Hon.Balasaheb Bhausaheb Thorat is a very popular leader associated with the Indian National Congress Party. He was born on 7th of February 1953 in Jorve, Sangamner, Dist. Ahmednagar, Maharashtra State., India. He completed his education from Sir D.M. Petit Highschool, Sangamner College, Sangamner and Furguson College, Pune. His initial career started as Farmer and Lawyer. He also became a leading face of co-operative movement of Maharashtra. He is the founder of milk co-operative and former president of Sangamner district and state co-operative Bank and also was Chairman of Sangamner Sugar Factory.
He has been elected as MLA from Sangamner constitutency Eight times since 1985. He has served as Minister for 17.5 years for Maharashtra, in Governments of Hon.Shri.Ashokrao Chavan, Hon.Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Hon. Shri. Prithviraj Chavan and in the Govt. of Mahavikas Aghadi. His contributions include Minister of State for Agriculture and Khar Lands, Cabinet Minister Revenue, Minister of School Education Government of Maharashtra and Congess Legislative Party leader of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He is permanent invitee of Congress working Committee. He has also contributed as guardian minister of Latur, Aurangabad, Usmanabad and Nagpur.
He has visited Switzerland, Denmark, Japan and many other countries of Europe for the study of Agriculture, Water Management and Education systems. He worked very devotedly for the successful completion of his dream project, Nilawande Dam, as his noble social commitment. He is involved in social initiatives like Dandakaranya Abhiyan, Blood Donation camps, Medical camps, Women Empowerment and all such activities, for the benefit of the society. He worked devotedly day & night during Corona period, for the society. He has been honoured with many prestigious awards, :Yeshwant-Venu Award", "Most Efficient KLA" Award:, Advocate Raosaheb Shinde Memorial Award:, Patriot Kisanveer Gratitude Award", "Best MLA Award" and "Madhavrao Gaikwad Lifetime Achievement Award".
Hon. Balasaheb Thorat is President of Amrutvahini Sheti and Shikshan Vikas Sanstha, Sangamner, Dist. Ahmednagar, Maharashtra State, established in 1983 by great visionary and leader of cooperative movement Late Shri. Bhausaheb Santuji Thorat. Shri. Balasaheb Thorat took over as President for translating the vision of Shri. Bhausaheb Thorat into dreams by the virtue of hard work, honesty & dedication to achieve excellence in the field of Education through his dynamic leadership. Sanstha now is providing quality education from KG to Ph.D. in this rural area. Sanstha is excelling in successfully giving quality education in the fields of Engineering, Pharmacy, MBA, Agriculture, Polytechnic, ITI, Junior College, Model School, NIDO International School and International School. The President, basically hailing from Farmer's family was keen to open an Agriculture College and was established in the year 2023. Thus Amrutvahini Sheti & Shikshan vikas Sanstha is playing a vital role in the Rural Development by imparting quality education to the rural people of this area, fulfilling the dreams of Shri. Bhausaheb Thorat, which he had dreamt long ago.
